Microsoft's Project Scorpio Dev Kit Reveals Possible Look of the Next Xbox

Image
Microsoft  has revealed what the  Project Scorpio  dev kit looks like, thanks to a new report. Gamasutra visited the company’s  Xbox  division to talk with head Phil Spencer, and  it has published  a few images that show what will be shipping out to developers in a few weeks. It looks like it’s been modelled after the  Xbox One S , just larger with a black expansion on the bottom, and with many more buttons on the front. It also includes a real-time clock, a battery backup, an OLED screen on the front, and five programmable buttons, as before. The screen is there so Xbox games developers can see important info like frames per second right on the front. The Project Scorpio dev kit also comes with three additional USB ports, and a network card for debug information. It’s got a faster GPU, double the amount of RAM at 24GB, and a 1TB SSD on top of the 1TB HDD that con

How to Search by Image on Google

Image
Everyone knows how to use Google Image Search that lets you quickly find images on the Internet. But not everyone knows about search by image, that can help you in a wide variety of cases. Sometimes you want to search for the sources of images, or maybe you have an image on your computer or found one online, and you want a high-resolution version or want to check if someone has posted it online. Or perhaps you want to check the authenticity of the latest WhatsApp forward you received. Or you have a picture of a table, and you'd like to buy the same one; or you've seen a picture of a cartoon character you are not able to recognise. These are all scenarios where Google’s Search by Image tool can be handy. We’ve used search by image feature multiple times to check if people have pasted our images on other websites. We’ve also been using it to look for images similar to the ones we find online or some that are stored on our computer. Google’s search by image works quite well an

Intelligent Machines Facebook’s Perfect, Impossible Chatbot

A mazon’s Alexa can summon an Uber and satisfy a four-year-old’s demand for fart noises. Siri can control your Internet-connected thermostat. Each serve millions of users each day. But a lucky group of around 10,000 people, mostly in California, know that Facebook’s assistant, named M, is the smartest of the bunch. Recommend and reserve a romantic hotel in Morocco that’s also suitable for small children? No problem. Get quotes from local contractors for landscaping your front yard? Consider it done. Facebook’s experimental assistant, offered inside the company’s Messenger app, shows the value of having a true digital butler in your pocket. Instead of just retrieving simple pieces of information from databases, M can understand complex orders and take actions like booking theater tickets or contacting companies for information. M is so smart because it cheats. It works like Siri in that when you tap out a message to M, algorithms try to figure out what you want

Facebook Cracks Down on 30,000 Fake Accounts in France

Image
Facebook Inc said on Thursday it suspended 30,000 accounts in France as the social network giant steps up efforts to stop the spread of  fake news , misinformation and spam. The move, which comes 10 days before the first round of a hotly contested French presidential election, is among the most aggressive yet by  Facebook  to move against accounts that violate its terms of service, rather than simply respond to complaints. Facebook is under  intense pressure in Europe  as governments across the continent threaten new laws and fines unless the company moves quickly to remove extremist propaganda or other content that violates local laws. The pressure on social media sites including  Twitter , Google's  YouTube  and Facebook has intensified in the run-up to the elections in France and Germany. Facebook already has a programme in France to use outside fact-checkers to combat fake news in users' feeds. Also on Thursday, Facebook took out full-page ads in Germany's b

iPhone 8 Tipped to Ditch Fingerprint Scanner Under Display, Sport 3GB of RAM

Image
iPhone 8  rumours have picked up pace, and today's bout of leaks bring more information on design, certain specification details, and the fact that the iPhone 8 may unfortunately skip the new fingerprint technology expected to be embedded underneath the display, and instead opt for other less exciting options. A schematics image  leak  on Weibo sheds light on iPhone 8 design details, indicating that it could not sport a completely-bezel-less wraparound display, but instead just reduce bezel chin on all sides, and try to make it as edge-to-edge as possible. The fingerprint sensor in this sketch is seen at the back, below the Apple logo, and this suggests that the company won't embed it underneath the screen. Furthermore, the dual camera setup is situated vertically, something that has been seen in  previous leaks  as well. The drawing suggests that the iPhone 8 is measured at 149x72.5x7.1mm wide, a slight difference from  iPhone 7's  measurement at 138x67.1x7.1mm - but t

Google Areo Hyperlocal App Launched in India; Bundles Bill Payments, Food Delivery, Local Services and More

Image
Google  has quietly launched the new  Areo  app on  Google Play  in India, without any official statement regarding its release. Areo is a local services application that allows you to pay bills, order food, call a plumber to fix your sink, or have a beautician come over to give you a facial. And although Google has the contact details of all these different services through the database it builds for  Google Maps , it's not using its own muscle to make this work. Instead, it has used the Google Areo app to bundle together different services. So, for example, in the food delivery section you can flip between Freshmenu, Faasos, and Box8. For other categories such as beauty and repairs, UrbanClap appears to be the main services provider at present. At the time of launch, the new Areo app supported services in parts of  Delhi  Mumbai and parts of Bengaluru, but naturally, this will change quickly. In Bengaluru's HSR Layout, however, these four services were the only provid

Windows Vista Is No Longer Supported by Microsoft
